Running an independent business is no small feat. It takes creativity, resilience, and a lot of long hours. But I love all I do, and being a Business and Brand Photographer.
People think when you’re freelance, you work little times of the day, but it’s actually the opposite. Rather than your classic 9-5, it’s almost 24/7, or at least a lot of late evenings no one sees. As a brand photographer, I get to step into your business world—capturing the details, the process, and the people who make it all happen.
The Power of Photography in Business
Strong visuals aren’t just nice to have; they’re essential. They shape how a brand is perceived, build trust, and create a connection with your customers. My role is to help independent businesses show up in the best way possible – whether that’s through product photography, lifestyle storytelling, or creating a bank of images that bring their brand to life.
I’m personally drawn to businesses with personality, ones that care about quality of all they do, and authenticity. Whether it’s a small coffee roastery, a surf-inspired clothing brand, or a boutique hotel, I love capturing what makes each business unique and creating marketing ready imagery to shout about how amazing they are.
Why Independent Businesses Matter
I’ve always been inspired by people who take the leap to build something of their own. Independent businesses have a certain energy and you can see the passion in the details, from the way a product is made to the way a space is designed. When I say I’ve worked with hundreds of independent businesses over my 11 years of being a Brand Photographer, I really mean it. From car mechanics, to bakeries and jewellers to yoga instructors, I’ve really experienced capturing a little bit of everything.
Brand photography isn’t just about creating professional photos; my job is also about reflecting the reality of a business in a way that feels natural and true to its identity – authentic to the day to day. That’s why I focus on working with businesses that align with that ethos – those that value originality, creativity, and craftsmanship.
Working in the South West
Being based in the South West means I get to work with businesses that are rooted in the landscape – from coastal cafés, outdoor brands, and creative entrepreneurs who draw inspiration from their surroundings. One day, I might be photographing a coffee shop in Exeter; the next, I’m shooting a surf brand on the North Devon coast. The variety keeps things interesting, and the people behind these businesses make the work I do genuinely rewarding. So thank you, if you’re one of my lovely loyal clients, for keeping my business going and helping me achieve working with all these fantastic brands – in the South West, and worldwide.
